Set up a photo booth at an event

A reliable booth is 80% preparation. Use this the day before and 10 minutes before doors open.

The gear

  • iPad (any model with iOS 17+) on a floor stand or tripod mount, with its charger and a long cable.
  • A soft light: ring light or LED panel in front of the guests, slightly above eye level.
  • A plain backdrop or a branded step-and-repeat — the AI replaces the background, but clean edges help.
  • Optional: a SELPHY or DNP printer, and a phone with hotspot as backup internet.

The day before

  1. Admin → Event Setup & Profiles: create the event (name, date, logo, colors) or load a saved profile.
  2. Admin → AI Scenes: turn on a preset (e.g. Holidays, Client Favorites) or pick scenes one by one.
  3. Admin → Welcome Screen & Kiosk: welcome background, guest modes (Photo, AI, Strip), mode-screen artwork and button size, language.
  4. Delivery: enable QR, WhatsApp, SMS, email and print as you need; add an ImgBB key so the QR works on cellular.
  5. Change the admin PIN from the default 1234 (Admin → Admin Settings → PIN protection).

10 minutes before doors

  1. iPad on power. Settings → Display & Brightness → Auto-Lock → Never. Turn on Do Not Disturb.
  2. Join the venue Wi‑Fi (or your hotspot). Take one test photo, one AI scene and one print.
  3. Start kiosk mode. To leave it, tap the small lock in the top-right corner and enter the PIN.
  4. Optional but recommended: turn on iOS Guided Access (Settings → Accessibility) so guests can't leave the app.
Tip — put a small sign next to the booth: “Scan the QR to get your photo · Your photo is edited by AI”. Guests read it; they don't read the screen.

During the event

  • Keep an eye on Admin → Usage this event: photos, AI images and sends.
  • If AI gets slow, switch to a faster model or another service in Admin → AI Generation, or lower the upload resolution.
  • After the event, export the contact list to Excel for your client (only people who opted in to marketing are marked as such).
